Can you guess what I got for Christmas?

I got new clubs and some pink golf balls! I think my mom thought it would be funny cause she knows how much I love pink! I love my clubs....too bad I won't get to use them until spring!

Christmas was good very fast! I go back to work tomorrow, I am glad Tara will be back! I can't believe that last week at this time we were sitting inside because of about 3 feet of snow and high winds! Now all the snow is practically melted....not that I am complaining. I hope that you all had a great Christmas and Santa brought you everything that you wanted...I keep thinking of that little girl at Quincy Elementary who told me (when I was dressed in my elf suit) that she wanted a pony....wonder if she got one?

Church Snow Day!

I was supposed to be in the kids Christmas Program tonight at church....but due to the weather all activities have been canceled at church. I think the program will be re-scheduled for next Sunday afternoon, but for now I am going to make some hard candy! My Grandma and my Aunt and I used to make this stuff all the time! I made some peppermint the other day and my house still smells like mint! I might try tangerine and lemon and if I am really feeling it...try the saltwater taffy too...but that doesn't always turn out for me. Happy Snow Day! Tara I am praying that this all clears up and you make your flight ok tomorrow!

Santa Claus and His Elf are Coming to Zeeland!

Tomorrow Craig and I start making the rounds as Santa and the Elf. We will be at Quincy, Lincoln, and I will be at the Bridge and maybe Creekside. It's so fun to see the little kids get all excited when they see Santa walking down the halls! Last year I made the trip out to Scott's classroom too! I guess it's just going to be and elfie sort of week! Merry Christmas!

I need your help.....

Friday night I have to go to a Christmas Party and need to bring an appetizer...my sisters are both bringing dips so I don't want to do that....any ideas?

Not much new to report....Made Chex Mix at Grandma's last week, and hooked up her new TV! We got her a new flatscreen for Christmas! The Chex Mix turned out great...just hope it lasts until we have to go to Aunt Fran's!

This week we are going to my Aunt Sharon's for a Christmas party, I have to speak at Ottawa Reformed, then we have my Grandpa coming over for dinner, and Curt Dykema's Christmas Concert Sunday night at Church! That is my favorite Christmas concert of the year!

If your not doing anything on Sunday night...come check it out!

Chex Mix

I don't know about you....but when I think of Chex Mix I think of my Grandma Jackie! She always would bring it Christmas Eve to my Aunt Fran's party. And you know what happens whenever you set a mix out...people pick out their favorites! What's your favorite in Chex Mix? Actually, our 2nd cousins would devour it before anyone would have a chance to get any! Friday I am going to Grandma's and we are making Chex Mix! We did this last year, and we made a ton of it, but it was gone before we knew it! I can't wait, see you Friday Gram!

Thankful

Let it snow...Let it snow...Let it snow!

It's snowing again...well at least in Holland and Zeeland, I guess we better get used to this weather, I'm just not ready for it yet! If you don't have to get out...I would stay in the roads aren't that great!

No school this week, the support letter went out, and REMIX is over so I am feeling a little less stressed right now. I am looking forward to Thanksgiving at Aunt Cherydl's (that's what we call my Aunt Cheryl)! I haven't seen some of my family in a while and it will be good to hang out with them!

At the office early......

I am sitting in the office alone this morning....I had to be here early to go to the board meeting this morning and give them an update, no one is here to talk to yet so I thought I would write a little bit. I can't believe that next week is Thanksgiving already, I guess that means I better get going on my Christmas shopping! I am feeling a little overwhelmed this week with work stuff....club yesterday (which went really well by the way), REMIX on Friday night, and I am trying to get my Thanksgiving support letter out! Zeeland has no school next week so I am excited about that! Try and get caught up at the office, and feel like I have a somewhat normal life again. I always go and decorate my Great Aunt Fran's house for Christmas on Black Friday with my Aunt Nancy, this will be the last year that we will be decorating that house, she has bought a smaller condo! 86 years old you go girl! I also usually help Nancy and Bill get their tree that day too, but they have already picked one out so all we have to do is cut it down, and get it to their house. Ok enough rambling for this morning....the staff is starting to show up so I better get ready for our staff meeting!

Club Week Four

Today is the fourth week of Club at the Bridge....things have been going really well! I have been happily surprised with how kids have been responding to the games and the lessons. If you haven't seen the movie Freedom Writers, I am going to plug it again...go rent it!

Last week we talked about the Woman and the Well, and how it was better to be known then be alone. Tonight is the last week of this series and it's all about LOVE. How Jesus sees us, hears us, knows us and LOVES us anyway. If you think of it say a prayer for me and the kids at the Bridge today around 4 pm. I am going to be sharing the gospel and giving kids the opportunity to make a decision for Jesus today!

Thanks be to God for his indescribable gift! 2 Corinthians 9:15

I know it's been a while...so here goes!

I have been out of the internet loop for a while! I have had a busy last couple weeks so I guess it's time to update the blog and all of you on what I have been up to....starting with Halloween! I went as Uncle Sam and my Grandma went as a prisoner who busted out! We had a lot of fun and a lot of good food that night!

Kirsten is a pig in a blanket....get it!?:-) and Karly went as a Chef thanks to her cousin Jarred!

Then last week started off on a great note, I went to see David Crowder on Monday night at Sunshine Church...that white boy can rock out!
The rest of the week was spent getting ready for our annual Youth for Christ Banquet. That was Thursday night at Laketown, it was a good time. It's always good when Bill grills some chicken for us! Friday I helped out at the Cityside Blender and Sunday I spoke twice at First Reformed Church, busy week. I am looking forward to the week of Thanksgiving, when Zeeland has no school and maybe...just maybe things will slow down a little bit!

Egg Blow

This is what we did at club yesterday....EGG BLOW. You take a clear tube crack a few eggs in it and see who can blow egg on the other ones face! I thought that we would do this a couple times and the kids would be sick of it....not the case, we went through a dozen eggs! The kids had a great time, and it was fun to watch too. The "lesson" part of club went over great too! I love tis series with the movie clips! Thanks for your prayers it was a huge success....now I've got to think of another gross game for next week.....maybe cow tongue toss or bob for octopus! Got any suggestions?

Club

Today is the first day of Club at the Bridge! Club is YFC's version of a youth group type meeting, but very non-christian friendly. I am really excited about it, and I hope that the kids like it.
The theme for the year is Get Connected and we are starting with a four week series entitled...It's All About Me...See Me, Hear Me, Know Me, Love Me. All of the lessons have clips from the movie The Freedom Writers (if you haven't seen this movie, go rent it, it is a great one!). Hopefully, Club is a place where the kids at the Bridge feel connected.
Tonight I am telling the story of Zaccheus and how he desperately wanted Jesus to notice him. We are also playing a game that involves a clear plastic tube and raw eggs, so it should be a good time. If you think of it say a prayer for me and the rest of my volunteers helping me out today!

Top 10 Worst Halloween Treats

I just read this and thought it was pretty good! Worst treats to hand out at Halloween!

1. Toothbrushes

2. Raisins

3. Candy Corn

4. Smarties and Necco Wafers

5. Dum Dum Lollipops

6. Apples

7. Tootsie Rolls

8. Misc. Wrapped Hard Candies

9. Laffy Taffy

10. Anything Fun Sized

This was on Yahoo today, and personally I don't agree with everything on this list. Ii like Laffy Taffy and Fun Sized Candy bars too....who in their right mind is going to buy full size candy bars and hand them out (I mean besides my Grandma Audrey, I don't know anyone that would do that) And Palmer Chocolate didn't make the list and it definitely should have....that stuff burns your throat as you swallow it...it's horrible! Also, don't you love those people who hand out dimes or old golf balls? I would have taken a tootsie roll over those anyday!

Basketball

Another year of basketball is in the books! We ended up being 8-3 which is a great record for middle schoolers! More than that though, I had a lot of fun with this team, they were all really sweet girls and hard workers. Last night we had our last game, and the varsity team came out to watch us. The girls were so excited! We won and then had a pizza party, it was fun night.

I hope that they all stick with it next year and go out for the 8th grade team, for some reason some of them get nervous that they aren't going to make it so they don't even bother trying out! I was talking to the middle school athletic director over at West Ottawa and they have a few volleyball and cheer leading coaching positions available if anyone is interested let me know!

Jonah Werner Concert

This is my friend Jonah and my mom and me, last fall when he came out to do a concert. I met Jonah out in Colorado when I was working at Noah's, he is an awesome musician and he is coming back to Zeeland! He will be here next Saturday night, I am so excited that he is coming back! I will definitely be going to see him and anyone else who is interested let me know....I'll even introduce you if you want! Check him out on youtube, itunes or his website www.jonahwerner.com!

The Mother Load!

I started sending candy to all my little friends out in Colorado a few years ago, and then started making treat bags for my little friends around here. Well lets just say that the number keeps growing and growing, so I have to get more and more candy. Monday night I made all my Halloween Treat Bags, and here is a picture of me with all of the candy that I started with! My mom always says that I am the queen of Halloween along with my Grandma, but I think she enjoys it just as much as we do. She always helps me with this project, and I think she buys more candy than I do!

Happy 1st Halloween Taylor!

So it's Taylor's first Halloween, and I had to carve her a pumpkin! Unfortunately a real pumpkin wouldn't make it to Denver in one piece, so it's a funkin...they are alright, but you can't get the small details as good as a real one. I thought it turned out alright though, it's my first one of the year...anyone else need a pumpkin carved this year..I'm taking orders!

My camera is driving me CRAZY...I couldn't get a good picture..sorry they are little blurry!

It Almost Pumpkin Time!

I love October! That means Halloween which means carving pumpkins! This is one that I did for Jake last year. I have to do a funkin for Taylor this year, and I think I am going to do Minnie Mouse, but I am not sure. I heard that the pumpkins might not be that good this year because of all the rain, but I hope that isn't true.

My Grandma got her Halloween costume already, all I know is whatever she is going to be....it starts with a "P" and it's not a princess or a pirate! My mom call us the Queens of Halloween! This is a picture of us last year! We always go to my Aunt Nancy's for dinner and trick or treating, and my Uncle Bill always scares us with this gross mask that he has! Nancy told me she is making Mummy Hot Dogs for dinner! I guess the whole family gets into it, not just me and Grandma!

This is Jake in the costume I got him last year, can't wait to see you as a little monkey this year buddy!

New Pictures

Picture #1--Basketball game Thursday night against Hamilton we won 29-27, that improves our record to 3-0! We will see if we stay undefeated this week we play Muskegon Reeths-Puffer at Puffer, those girls tend to be a little more aggressive than we are used to and usually the officials aren't great either!

Picture #2--My cousins Karly and Grant we all met downtown to watch their sister Kirsten at mannequin night!

Picture #3-- Kirsten the Mannequin

Picture #4--Ready for her close up!

Picture #5--Me and my buddy Jake!

Oh yeah one more thing, I ordered Jillian Michaels DVD (the 30 day shred) last week, just did work out number one, and I have to say it was pretty good definitely keeps the heart rate up!

Grandpa is Cancer FREE!

Grandma is probably not going to be happy with me for putting her picture on here...but we don't care cause Grandpa just got the all CLEAR from the cancer dr! Gramps, have a cold one you deserve it! Love you guys!

1st Game of the Year

In about 2 hours my 7th grade girls will have their first game of the year! I have to say that they are looking pretty good to me, but you never know until you see them against another team. I am sure that they are nervous, let's just hope we shoot at the right hoop and I don't get a technical foul like I did last year for having 6 on the court. I told one of the girls to get in the game for someone else, and forgot to tell her to check in....I then made the official aware that I had 6 on the court and tried to tell him what happened (in a very calm manner) and he T-eed me up! I thought that was a bit harsh since it was our first game! Anyway, I hope we don't have any of that today!

Last night was the bi kick off event to the ministry year! We had about 130 kids a Lawrence St. Park for hot dogs, popcorn, games and Tommee Profitt live in concert. It was a good event and the kids seemed to enjoy themselves. I am looking forward to grilling hot dogs again on Friday night for the Zeeland East homecoming! If your going to the game, stop by and see us before you go in a get a hot dog!

1st Week Of School

I always looked forward to school...I remember getting all new school supplies but my favorite part was getting new basketball shoes! This past week was the first week back at school and my first week back coaching basketball (no new shoes for me though). It was a busy week but a good one. I like seeing all the kids in the same place again, however I am a little overwhelmed trying to learn the new 6th graders names. My basketball team is looking pretty good this year, we will find out soon enough our first game is this week Thursday!

I'll leave you with one of my lunchroom conversations....Thursday I went to Cityside, someone let their 6th graders out early and so there were only a few in the lunchroom, but one girl sitting alone, so I decided to go over and sit with her. We had the normal chit chat conversation...how's school, do you like your teachers, can you get your locker open alright...this is when I realized that I didn't get her name. So we exchanged names, and she no more than told me her name, and the next words out of her mouth were "Yeah, I've had a hard life. My mom died when I was five and my dad and my Grandma have been fighting over me ever since." It was like she just had to get it out. I sat with her the rest of her lunch and said a prayer for her as she walked away.....

If you think of it say a prayer for this girl, me and the rest of the YFC staff as we go to the lunchrooms this school year!

Dinner with G-Ma

Tonight I went out for dinner with my Grandma. We had some great pizza at Malarky's on Kalamazoo and M-6! I had pepperoni she had eggplant and tomato. Then we went over to Maggie Moo's which we also recommend for ice cream! It kind of reminds me of Cold Stone...but maybe even better! It was a fun night with Grandma, while Grandpa is out of town. Now we are watching the Tigers...the score is 6-2 Tigers on top....the question is will they hold on for the win?

Who is this guy?

Coming to Community Reformed this fall....DIRTY JOBS! Look for this picture on billboards around town...you might just see it!

Taylor Grace Williams

Proud big brother with little Taylor Grace!

Taylor Grace

Taylor Grace

Congratulations Williams Family

I'm so excited for Rob and Kami and Jackson! I got a text message from Rob tonight, they had a little baby girl, Taylor Grace! I can hardly stand being 1,200 miles away. Kami and the baby are doing great! I'm sure so are Rob and big brother Jackson. I can't wait to visit, and as soon as I get a picture, I will post one.

YFC Noah's Ark Trip Video

YFC Noah's Ark Trip Pictures

We had a great time in Colorado last week! Can you tell? For a lot of the kids it was there first time in Colorado, I think my cousin Karly was so much in awe of the mountains on the way that she probably took about 30 pictures out of the bus window! The rafting was fun, but I love to watch the kids rock climb and rappel, a lot of them are a little nervous and it is so cool to see them accomplish something that they didn't think they could do. The last night we were at Noah's we had a pretty deep spiritual talk, and I can tell you this that God was working in the hearts of all of us who were on this trip.

Look who's here: Mountain-Shaper! Wind-Maker!
He laid out the whole plot before Adam.
He brings everything out of nothing,
like dawn out of darkness.
He strides across the alpine ridges.
His name is God, God-of-the-Angel-Armies
Amos 4:13 The Message

Noah's Ark Here We Come

Tomorrow I leave for Noah's Ark again! This time with Youth for Christ kids! I am excited because I get to see my friends again, and I get to bring some of my best friends out with me! Tara and Scott are bringing kids from West Ottawa, I have a group from Zeeland, and we also have kids from Holland coming. It should be a great time, and we don't have to drive this year, we rented a bus and a driver from Eagle Crest Ministries. That is awesome, more time to hang out with the kids. If you think of it say a prayer for us this week. We will be back on Friday so hopefully I will have some pictures up next weekend!

Golf Anyone?

Last week YFC got a phone call that someone had paid for us to have a team in the Hospice golf outing. I laughed when Craig asked if I would be interested in playing! I am not much of a golfer, I enjoy it, just not very good, and I really don't play that much so that I my own fault I guess. When my Grandma Audrey passed away I inherited her clubs, which is great I am sure they are great clubs...just one problem they are right handed and I'm not. So I went to the driving range to practice with her clubs...and let's just say it was not going well!

Now I was dreading this whole golf outing thing. I hate not being good at something...especially athletics. I called Tara and she had a solution to my problem...I could use her mom's left handed clubs. Friday morning we golfed and I have to say that I thought we did a great job. 2 under par, not bad for a team who doesn't golf on a regular basis. And, we had a lot of fun! So anyone up for a round of golf, give me a call.

Aunt Fran's Killer Brownies

I wasn't home on the 4th of July, but I heard from several people in my family that my Great Aunt Fran made some killer brownies for the party at my parent's house. Tomorrow it is my turn for devotions for the staff meeting, which also means that I am responsible for bringing a "treat!" I wish you were all could smell my condo right now, it's heavenly...fresh brownies. Her recipe is to follow the directions on the Ghiradelli box...pour half of the batter into a pan add pieces of a Hershey Symphony bar on top of that and then add the second half of the batter! If they taste half as good as they smell they can't be half bad!
