I always looked forward to school...I remember getting all new school supplies but my favorite part was getting new basketball shoes! This past week was the first week back at school and my first week back coaching basketball (no new shoes for me though). It was a busy week but a good one. I like seeing all the kids in the same place again, however I am a little overwhelmed trying to learn the new 6th graders names. My basketball team is looking pretty good this year, we will find out soon enough our first game is this week Thursday!
I'll leave you with one of my lunchroom conversations....Thursday I went to Cityside, someone let their 6th graders out early and so there were only a few in the lunchroom, but one girl sitting alone, so I decided to go over and sit with her. We had the normal chit chat conversation...how's school, do you like your teachers, can you get your locker open alright...this is when I realized that I didn't get her name. So we exchanged names, and she no more than told me her name, and the next words out of her mouth were "Yeah, I've had a hard life. My mom died when I was five and my dad and my Grandma have been fighting over me ever since." It was like she just had to get it out. I sat with her the rest of her lunch and said a prayer for her as she walked away.....
If you think of it say a prayer for this girl, me and the rest of the YFC staff as we go to the lunchrooms this school year!

Kate, this is what you and YFC is all about. These kids need you. Yes I will pray for this girl. You do an awesome job. Keep up the good work.............
Sounds like God put you in the right place at the right time! That poor girl! Good luck at your game Thursday, you don't have much time to practice at all!
Kte: I'm kind of old fashioned, I guess. All I have is a web-site (www.danmaly.com) and e-mail (danmaly@danmaly.com) or the Maly Blog. See ya.
(Maybe I'll make up a blog?)
Kate, I DON'T miss the music from that first service. I thought to myself tonight HOW MANY VERSES CAN THEIR BE TO ONE SONG--AND MY GOODNES DOESN'T BEN'S ARMS GET TIRED WAVING AROUND UP FRONT. HE IS ODD!!!! ANGELA IS THE FIRST ONE TO COMMENT ON HIM. I MISS JOSH TOO!
Thank you Kate for letting us know of this prayer request. The sad thing is how many students probably have a similar or just as bad hard-knock life that we don't know about. I will certainly pray for this 6th grader.
