Coaching

Today is the first day of softball tryouts. I remember the first day of tryouts when I played sports in high school and it can be a stressful time for kids. I understand that because I was cut from a team and I think that makes me a better coach, especially when it comes to cuts. What I don't understand is that I have gotten a few emails from parents already. I haven't even met their daughters and they are already emailing me. The hardest part about coaching sometimes is the parents....no offense to any of you parents out there. I went to my sisters volleyball tournament, and she got talked to by some parents, apparently their daughter was ineligible because of grades and wasn't even supposed to go to the tournament according to the rules. Kelly talked to the athletic director and got the OK to let her go to the tournament and even play a few points here or there, but still the parents weren't happy with that! Kelly explained all of this to the player on Friday, it seems the player forgot to tell the parents. But, even after Kelly explained it to the parents they still thought she should play more. It seems real simple to me, get your grades up and you can play. I guess in their minds it wasn't that simple. Don't get me wrong here, I do have a heart and I think that being a coach is a lot of responsibility and I take it very seriously! I don't know where I am going with this, so I am going to end it.... If you think about it, say a prayer for me, and all the athletes trying out for spring sports this week! We all probably need it!

UNREAL...tell Kel I said hi, and I sure hope you don't encounter parents like that!! My kids would have killed me if I approached their coach and bugged them to play my kids more!
Thinking of you and will include the whole thing in prayer this wk!

I hear you- parents get more involved in their kids' sports than they do their education!

Did you know Tyree is moving? March 27th is his last day- he'll be starting at Holland. I'll really miss that kid!
